Spider silk is made of amino acid chains, producing fibers that are ultra-light and extremely strong—showing how nature inspires innovative materials.
Interesting properties
One of the disadvantages of making natural silk is that spiders are difficult to breed as they tend to kill each other. In addition, it takes around 400 spiders to make 0.85 square metres of web.
