Element 4
Description
PYRATEX® element 4 is made from organic cotton and banana waste fiber. It uses the stems left over from the food industry, turning them into textile material instead of throwing them away. This reduces agricultural waste and adds value to a natural by-product. Banana fiber has a low environmental impact because the plant needs little water and no or fertilizers. It can also be grown in the same place every year.
What problem it solves
PYRATEX® element 4 solves the issue of large waste generated by the banana industry by turning discarded stems into usable textile fiber. This reduces agricultural waste and avoids the use of extra resources, giving value to a by-product that was previously unused.
Interesting properties
India is one of the largest banana producers in the world, with over 30 million tonnes per year. For every tonne of fruit, around four tonnes of stem waste are generated, making this agricultural by-product a highly abundant raw material for new fibers.
