Banana plant waste

Commercial Banana

Banana fiber is a plant-based material derived from the agricultural waste of banana cultivation in the Canary Islands, Europe’s leading banana-producing region. For every ton of fruit harvested, approximately four times more biomass is generated, revealing a largely untapped resource with strong potential for contemporary design. Its transformation from waste into raw material is carried out manually, with no water or energy consumption, resulting in a fiber that is strong, flexible, and extremely lightweight, featuring a natural chromatic range from beige to chocolate brown. These structural and aesthetic qualities make it particularly suitable for sustainable applications in fashion and design. https://www.instagram.com/pilarurenaescariz
